Alkaline Water Filters
Q :
by Amanda from Thornlie, Australia
You recommend water filters, but which type do you consider to be the best? Other health professionals are now saying that reverse osmosis filters create "dead" water because they remove helpful minerals as well as contaminants and heavy metals. What are your views on this and on alkaline ionized water?

There is much confusion on this issue.  R/O is NOT dead water. That more accurately describes distilled water.  I do not advocate distilled water or alkaline water filters which typically run $1000 or so.

R/O is what I personally use and recommend. I am currently completing a research project to offer one for sale on our site as this has been a common request for many years. Hope to have it by this summer.

I was told that reverse-osmosis is empty water with no minerals, and thus when passing through your body can leech minerals from your body, similar to distilled water. I was told by a natural health professional that r/o with added mineral supplemets is the way to go. I don't like the taste or idea of bottled minerals. This is all very confusing to me! The answer to the question does not clear up all my doubts about the "perfect" water. Mercola, can you please expand?

DO NOT buy a water alkalizer/Ionizer. These bogus products are artificially Ionized via electrolysis, a process found nowhere in nature that has known damaging effects on the bodies energy system. These filters also have adverse effects on the digestive system due to the unnaturally high PH balance and contrary to health claims they do not alkalise the body.
While Reverse Osmosis is safe, the process which removes harmful contaminants like flouride also removes trace minerals.
By far the best system is the innovative "Wellness water" purifier. Wellness water systems first filter out unwanted contaminants and then the water passes through an array of ceramic magnets surrounded with magnetite, the same iron rich rock found at the world's great springs including that of the famous hunza tribe, and the water's hydrogen bonding network is altered and its bonds realign to create a water that is more soluble "wetter water". It is then past through Tenko seki far infrared rays (known for their powerful healing and detoxifying effects) which naturally ionizes the water (as opposed to the dangerous process of electrolysis). The resulting effect is a more soluble water with a shortened cluster cell (like the water in our bodies cells) that is active at the cellular level.
Check out their website at http://www.wellnessfilter.com/ and be sure to check the comparisons link for an explanation on why you should never drink from water alkalizer/ionizer filters....

I have been using Reverse Osmosis water for years.
I go to Walmart or our local grocery store and fill up our water jugs.
I never once thought there may be something lacking now such as minerals.
Instead assuming due to hearsay that the minerals are now gone, isn't there a way we can test to be sure?...
