Are Genetically Modified Peanuts Any Improvement on the Real Thing?

Considering peanuts are among the most pesticide-laden foods one can eat and they're often contaminated with a carcinogenic mold, unfortunately, many people may be fooled by the American Peanut Council's tacit approval to give scientists the go-ahead to "build" a better peanut.

For the longest time, the industry had been against genetic modification, fearing a consumer backlash. As with most all things related to business, however, the fear of losing marketshare and dollars to foreign interests won out at the expense of your health.

Total peanut acreage in the Unites States fell to slightly more than a million acres this year (it's expected to drop even more next year), while soybeans and cotton -- two crops that have benefited greatly from Frankenstein-like tampering -- have increased.

Expect to see that first genetically modified peanut in your corner grocery store within five years, with promises that it will reduce food allergies and have just as many healthy antioxidants as the real thing, if not more... Still, there are far better food-based sources to get the antioxidants your body needs, and some might surprise you. Among them:

  • Vegetables: beans and artichokes
  • Spices: ground cloves, ground cinnamon and oregano
  • Nuts: pecans, walnuts and hazelnuts
  • Fruits: cranberries, blueberries and blackberries

In most European Nations GMO foods have been outlawed because they know how harmful they are. That also goes for Amalgam fillings which can contain up to 50% Mercury. It never ceases to amaze me how in the USA people are still so brain washed and believe our government is protecting them. Are we just stupid? Come on!!! Let's do something about this sh*t rather then just chatting about it. Count me in!

I was watching George Carlin last night and he called us  "Sheep-le"

Funny, the American Sheeple.  We tend to be like sheep in many ways.

Like I have lamented before, a day does not seem to go by without some stupid, dangerous, unhealthful decision, or recall of a previously approved substance/food/beverage/drug, in the headlines, by government officials.

He (or She) who stays furthest away from bureaucrats and their wacko systems, or decrees, relying on common sense, will be happier, healthier, and safer.

The question is: What can we do?  How can we stop this?

1) Join and support an organic consumers group like the
Organic Consumers Association:
http://www.organicconsumers.org/index.htm
or groups like the Weston A Price Foundation
where Dr Mercola is an honorary board member:
http://www.westonaprice.org/splash_2.htm

2) Contact your federal and state representatives to let them know how you feel.

3) Spread the word to friends and family and encourage them to do the same.
