Congress Could Block HPV Vaccine Mandate

Just as various state legislatures fight about the dubious need for mandating a new and costly vaccine to treat the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus, a bill introduced yesterday by U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) may change the political landscape considerably.

Written a month ago, Gingrey's bill would simply eliminate any federal funding for HPV vaccination programs. Although the Washington Times speculates the chances of getting such a bill on its own through Congress were remote, some believe it could be attached to the 2008 spending bill for the Department of Health and Human Services that may not be blocked at all.

However, this potential obstacle hasn't stopped some, notably Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine, who has requested $4 million in state funds to provide the vaccine for children of low-income families.

Also amid the flurry of government news was an announcement from GlaxoSmithKline that they will file an application with the FDA for a HPV vaccine of their own called Cervarix. If the feds deem it necessary to grant Cervarix fast-track status, the vaccine -- just as unnecessary as Gardasil -- may be available by year's end.

K Street Lobbyists out number the total members of the US Congress (House and Senate) by some ridiculous ratio, that I hazard to guess, but it is significant, if not OBSCENE.

When the Republicans where voted out of the majorities in the last election cycle, the Big Pharma lobbyists (averaging about a quarter million dollars base salary each, & upward, based on effectiveness - which is CHUMP CHANGE in this seedy world of BRIBERY) were already scrambling to get more pro industry representation (translated from the Pig Latin - BOUGHT & PAID FOR VOTES) on the Democratic side of the isle.

It would appear by this latest news, the forces of darkness and unhealthiness, are again at it, to HARM YOUR HEALTH, and that of YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS, to improve their bottom lines in PROFIT.

Vote the bums out, on both sides of the aisle, that are supporting such death merchants' attempts to legislate such blatant EVIL.

Bridestein,

You suggested you had…"evidence of the last 8 years"…suggesting fraud… "in the vote counting system".

You're probably right about that 8 years ago part of your accusation, because that would have been during the final two years of the Clinton-Gore era of sex, lies and deceptive politics that tarnished our country's reputation so badly.

The vast majority of vote manipulation is now, and always has been dominated by the democrats, and its union crud. Get over your losses for God's sake…it was six years ago. Time to move on.

It would help you to cope better in your life if you would spread some of that political distrust of yours around in a bi-partisan fashion to include your own political ilk. They are hurting you more than you care to imagine.

I agree with Uncle Russ that incumbent reelections is a pox on our political system. Had I any say, elective terms would be lengthened slightly, but running for the same office for a second term would be illegal. Politics as a career should not exist on either end of the political spectrum. It's results are always bad for the country.

Avoid mounting that political high horse…it'll always buck you off.

Wow, Enzo, your response could as mis-interpreted as my initial comment was. I never stated my political "ilk"; I expressed my distrust of the system (all of it - not just one side!) and that after years of endless evidence regarding voting fraud that there had been no changes made to correct the problem.
It would help you cope better in your life if you were less judgemental!

Do you still believe your vote will be counted correctly? I think that the winners of the presidential and perhaps congressional elections are decided long before the votes are tallied. And probably have been for a long time, judging by history.
Despite all the evidence of the last 8 years, there are still no effective changes to the vote counting system. I think that says it all.
