Don't Be Misled By Dairy Ads

According to a review of the published scientific literature, claims that low-fat dairy products or calcium can help people lose weight are untrue. Neither dairy products in general nor calcium intake promote weight loss.

Out of 49 clinical trials, 41 showed no effects of diary or calcium on weight, two showed an increase in body weight with a dairy regimen, and one showed a lower rate of weight gain. Only five showed weight loss.

An association between calcium or dairy intake and weight loss has been seen in some "observational" studies, possibly due to other factors such as increased exercise, cutting out high-calorie foods with little nutritional value, or other diet changes.

It would be interesting to know who funded these 49 clinical studies, the evidence of which was used in the review to determine the effectiveness of calcium or low-fat dairy products in weight loss.

People seem to be looking for a safe, quick fix to losing weight. There is no such thing. You have to be willing to change your lifestyle permanently in order to achieve your ideal weight. Its also necessary to understand your own body and the way it metabolizes various foods. Check out Dr. M's nutritional typing. I've found it to be very helpful, when I follow his advice.  Sometimes I am naughty and don't and when I eat things I shouldn't, I gain weight. It can be that simple.

Dairy products, that is those made from milk, were not originally designed for human consumption, but rather for young calfs. We were not supposed to drink even human milk past a few years of life.

To be fair, though, some milk can be healthy; although, truly healthy milk is very hard to find.

For these reasons, I do not drink milk.
