Fruit Can Keep Your Arteries Squeaky Clean

A study on juices made from apples or purple grapes showed that both the juices and the fruits themselves can protect against clogged arteries.

Researchers fed hamsters fruit juice along with a fatty diet. The animals who were fed grape juice had the lowest risk of developing artery problems.

The benefits came from the fruits’ high levels of phenols, an antioxidant. Antioxidants in various foods are known to be beneficial to heart health.

The team wanted to look at how juicing affected the phenol content of fruit because most studies have looked at raw fruit.

They are always trying to fix one issue without checking to see how it will impact other areas. They have to start seeing the body as a whole entity, not trying to target, or isolate certain keys areas, without checking to see the impact it would have on other areas. Same with exercise, isolation type exercises does not deliver the same benefits as total body workouts does...... Are they ever gonna get it right !!!!!

Imagine the Insulin spikes 4 glasses a fruit juice (i bet they are pasteurised) will deliver, especially if you're borderline ,full blown diabetic or struggling with weight related issues????.

I still say  eat right, get your servings of Phenols from veggies and some raw fruit if you're healthy, proper regular exercise, and TOP it of if you like with a glass of red vino if you can, you'll get the same, or better overall benefits, minus the SUGARS from just the fruit juices.....

For everything else you can always pop a couple Purple Defence, get your Phenols/antioxidants without the sugar rush ......
Sante!!!!!

I am now wary of drinking grape juice after learning from Russell Blaylock's book "Health and Nutrition Secrets, that can save your life", that it can be a source of fluoride.

I wish the BBC reporter had given us a full report so we could make an informed decision on how good (or bad) the science was behind the study. I would like to know what kind of fat was fed to the beasties - was it animal or vegetable?, was it cold-pressed?. was it hydrogenated? was it pastuerized? what percent of caloric intake was from fat? did the beasties have free access to consume as much (or little) as they wanted? what was the other food in the diet - man-made kibbles, or free-range?

Regarding the apples, grapes and their juices - were they fresh? were they organically grown? was the juice pastuerized? was it diluted? was sugar added to it? did the beasties have free access to consume as much (or little) as they wanted, etc.

How many hamsters were involved in the study, and was there a control group? What percentage of them were autopsied? And were they allowed to die a natural death, or were they sacrificed?

Who funded the study?

And last but not least - what was the mortality rate? what was the frequency of heart attacks and or strokes? - the bottom line, not extrapolated (guessed at) from the degree of atherosclerosis.

Just wishing and wondering.

...okay...I am going to try raw beets again....Juiced.  (gag) My mother loved beets and we ate them about three times a week when we were kids.Maybe if I mixed it with an apple and some spinach?

This past weekend was a long weekend up here in the Land of  the Beaver, and there were many events everywhere. I was invited to a dinner by  healthcare professionals and I was so surprised when they offered pre-mixed, high sugar concentrated juices,  as alternatives. The plastic bottled water was  sitting in  ice out in the sun.

It sparked a conversation and I think many people came away with some information that they never knew before.

It never fails to amaze me how many people out in our healthcare system still have no idea about healthy choices...
