How Stress Can Strengthen Cancer Cells in Your Body

The stress hormone epinephrine changes prostate and breast cancer cells in ways that may make them resistant to cell death. This means that emotional stress could both contribute to the development of cancer and reduce the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

Epinephrine levels increase sharply in response to stressful situations, and can remain continuously elevated during long periods of stress or depression.

When cancer cells are exposed to epinephrine, a protein called BAD, which causes cell death, becomes inactive.

An earlier study found that men who take beta blockers, which block the effects of epinephrine, can have an 18 percent lower risk of prostate cancer.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

I've devoted a lot of space on my site to studies that prove, without a doubt, the undeniable connection between emotional and physical health. For example, a positive mental attitude can play a vital role in maintaining a healthy heart and delaying the aging process naturally.

And seemingly every day, scientists are learning new reasons why unresolved negative emotions can shorten your life in so many ways. Just as the similar stress hormone norepinephrine does, epinephrine can make your body more susceptible to certain forms of cancer.

These findings have since spurred new research with prostate cancer patients, among others, to determine if the severity of the disease is linked to the level of stress hormones found in their blood.

Stress is a key factor in any illness, and it plays a major role in the health of nearly every one of the more than 20,000 patients I have seen. It's not surprising how stress can harm your body, considering that in a state of depression, your brain can even rewire its own emotional circuitry and destroy nerve cell connections.

But don't even think that taking a drug is a possible solution here. Of course, some drug company would like you to believe that was the case and would be more than willing to market and sell you a drug that can harm your immune system and elevate your diabetes risks.

There are several things you can do to beat stress and negative emotions without risking your health in the process. Learning how to manage your emotions better with the help of an energy psychology tool like the Emotional Freedom Technique does wonders, as can getting the proper therapeutic dose of exercise.

Strangely enough (and I hate to paint such an evil picture of the medical system) I am convinced that this is exactly what the system does to promote the cancer business!

They try their hardest to induce stress with the word “Cancer” itself and then in there intimidating way, they lay there whole plan out and tell you how you will suffer and die if you don’t do everything they tell you.

I believe in some cases they can actually cause cancer in those that never had it in the first place.

In my practice as a Clinical Herbalist, just about every cancer patient I see has had a major stress factor before there cancer diagnosis or (and here is why I an so concerned) After a visit to the doctor with out cancer but then a follow up that somehow shows cancer!

The very word “Cancer” grips our emotion of fear. Do you think they don’t take advantage of this? It is the best tool The American Cancer Society (founded at the New York Harvard Club in 1913 by none other than John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his friends) has!

When World War II came along, Cornelius Rhodes, who was involved in the beginning cancer research at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, became chief of research for the chemical warfare service of the U.S. military - whose function was to conduct studies of the effects of poison gas. They now have the "acceptable" names of Cytoxin, Alkeran, and Leukeran. Nitrogen mustard is meant to kill people, and it frequently does that job very well when given to cancer patients.

But how to get customers? Induce stress with the magic word, CANCER!

For me, exercise is one of the better stress relievers.  Relaxation, humor, and EFT are good too.

I also quit my caffeine habit about a year ago and for me that helped to reduce stress levels at work.  I think caffeine aggravates stress for many people.

Many laughs a day keeps the doctor away : )

There is nothing particularly wrong with stress. Actually if there is no Stress then there is no Progress.

Stress only becomes a problem when your body can't deal with it properly, then seemingly good things, like exercise (if done too much or incorrectly) can start causing you a great deal of problems.

Stress is cumulative and comes from different areas:
  1. Nutritional
  2. Physical
  3. Chemical
  4. Mental
  5. Electromagnetic
  6. Thermal
The more you know about the stress the more you can use it to your advantage.

there is something wrong with stress.....it is what we call the continual fight or flight and for some reason we are brought up believing that stress is supposed to be a normal, everyday experience. The problem is our bodies are not intented to be in that state for more than a few minutes, a year!

When we are in fight or flight our stomach stops digesting, our pupils dilate, our bladder relaxes, our capliaries dilate, etc. etc. We are simply not made to handle that on a regular basis. The more often we can back to a state of relaxation (meaning non-stressed) the better off we will be all the way around, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
