Krill Oil: The Proven Natural Treatment Option for ADHD

You may recall reading several months ago about the dramatic and wonderful effect krill oil had on a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A recently completed study of krill oil and adult patients with ADHD appears to be just as promising.

Scientists evaluated the effect of krill oil on 25 adult ADHD patients who took a 500 mg dose daily for six months as calculated by Barkley's Executive Function that scores behavior inhibition, social behavior and daily functional capacity. The impressive numbers tell the story here:

  • Patients improved their concentration and working capacity by more than 60 percent during the trial.
  • The quality of planning skills among ADHD patients climbed 50 percent.
  • Social skills got better by some 49 percent.

The trial was so successful, Neptune Technologies & Bioressources hopes to launch a larger cognitive study of krill oil one day soon. In the meantime, you don't have to wait to take advantage of krill oil, rich in phospholipids, antioxidants and omega-3 fats that are bonded uniquely to protect them from oxidation so your body can absorb them more easily, as I offer this wonderful product in my Web store.

Dr. Mercola,

I have tried to find the answer to this in the newsletter, but am not sure if I am missing it.  Should I take additional Vitamin E daily in addition to the Krill Oil, or will the KO be sufficient in this area?  I know you say the KO has large amounts of antioxidants, but was wondering if additional Vit E is necessary to be healthy.

The "Wayne Cook Posture" was developed in the 1970s for the treatments of ADD/ADHD. It helps balance the left and right hemispheres and unscramble our thinking. A quick description follows:

The Wayne Cook Posture

"To do the Wayne Cook posture, sit in a chair with your spine straight (time -- about 2 minutes):

1. Place your right foot over your left knee. Wrap your left hand around your right ankle and your right hand around the ball of your right foot.

2. Breathe in slowly through your nose, letting the breath lift your body as you breathe in. At the same time, pull your leg toward you, creating a stretch. As you exhale, breathe out of your mouth slowly, letting your body relax. Repeat slow breathing and stretching four or five times.

3. Switch to the other foot. Place your left foot over your right knee. Wrap your right hand around your left ankle and your left hand around the ball of your left foot. Use the same breathing.

4. Uncross your legs and place your fingertips together forming a pyramid. Bring your thumbs to rest on your "third eye," just above the bridge of your nose. Breathe slowly in through your nose. Then breathe out through your mouth, allowing your thumbs to separate slowly across your forehead, pulling the skin.

5. Bring your thumbs back to the third eye position. Slowly bring your hands down in front of you, pulling them together into a prayerful position while breathing deeply. Surrender into your own breathing."

Tissue growth process depends on the construction of new biological membranes. Once in place, these membranes become a source of supply for fatty acids that regulate cell function. Thus the fatty acid composition of tissues laid down in childhood determines the status of your adult years. The growth and development of the CNS is dependent upon the presence of long chain highly unsat fatty acids DPA and DHA. It is important for mothers to ingest quality fats and organic foods while pregnant. As well, if a child is labeled with ADHD, eating quality oils and foods, as well as eliminating other foods and lifestyle habits can allow these children to live a functional life.

Would Krill oil then be beneficial for autistic children?  What about epilepsy?

Not only is Krill efficacious, but ask yourselves the simple question: how effective is it in populations that do consume it?

Krill will give you a 'thrill'.
