U.S. is #1 in Many Areas -- But Not in Health

The United States generates the largest domestic product of any nation ($13.3 billion), leads the world in Nobel Prize winners (almost 300) and has the most Internet users (more than 200 million).

But there are also areas where the United States lags. The United States has the largest national debt, an astonishing $8.6 trillion, and the U.S. unemployment rate is higher than 38 other countries, including Japan, Switzerland, and Mexico.

In the realm of health, the United States leads in terms of citizens having access to clean water and sanitation facilities. But the United States also spends more money on health care than any country -- $5,700 per person per year, and a full 15 percent of our gross domestic product. And in spite of this:

  • 43 countries have more doctors per capita
  • 49 have more hospital beds per capita
  • 33 have a lower infant death rate
  • 28 have a lower maternal death rate
  • 29 have a higher life expectancy for women, and 27 for men

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

The United States has the largest gross domestic product (GDP) -- $13.3 trillion -- but spends a higher portion of its GDP than any other country, and only ranks 37 out of 191 countries according to its performance.

Quite simply, U.S. citizens are NOT getting value for their money. This is most curious when you consider the other areas where the United States, despite making up less than 5 percent of the world's population, ranks as #1:

  • Nobel Prize-winners (296)
  • Billionaires (371)
  • Most patents
  • Most Internet users (205,327,000)
  • Most roads (3.98 million miles), airports (14,858) and railway tracks (140,805 miles)

I think most would agree that Americans have been productive and economically fruitful. If that is the case then why do we have such a dismal health record?

The answer, folks, is quite simple. It is BY DESIGN. The same geniuses that were able to produce the leading statistics above have, over the course of the last two centuries, figured out how to manipulate the system that American's founding fathers put in place to protect our freedoms.

Please understand that the drug companies are the primary force behind the terrible health statistics. This is not an accident at all, or some terrible oversight. This is by design.

I am going to be sharing a 60-minute video that was aired on April 1, 2007 that is called Under the Influence. Everyone needs to see this video, as it reveals how the drug companies have been able to control the U.S. Congress and manipulate it to pass just about any law they want. I am absolutely shocked that they let this air on CBS. I am sure they could have prevented it from being aired, but my guess is that they just don't care at this point because they think they have the system so well under control.

And they do, at least for now.

Once you understand how they control the government, you realize how they are diverting hundreds of billions of dollars for their own good -- NOT the good of the public. It is this diversion of funding that is the primary reason why American health is so poor. If these funds were invested wisely and not stolen, there is no doubt in my mind the United States would lead the world in health stats.

But for now, by the end of the decade, health care costs are expected to rise to $3 TRILLION. This is largely due to the costs of drugs and surgery and a reliance on a medical system that does not treat the cause of disease.

So what can you do?

Simple.

Take Control of Your Health. You don't have to stand for this nonsense any more, ever. Learn what you need to stop being deceived by the drug company lies and deceptions. Tell your family, friends and neighbors, and be a beacon of light.

I am highly confident with tools like the Internet that the days are numbered for the drug companies, and collectively we will defeat them. It is a massive David vs. Goliath battle, but there is no doubt in my mind that the victory will be ours.

I do so much Japan-bashing, I'm glad for the chance to say something nice about them for a change. If I'm correct, Japan is still number one in longevity. I don't know how long that will last. Countries that pursue America's golden apple of commercial success will have to face the consequences of rampant consumerism. /// I've identified three reasons the Japanese still enjoy relatively good health (and there may be more): (1) Conservatism in food choices. They resist food from abroad and are suspicious of new fads. Traditionally, what they ate included a lot of raw or fermented items. They would shop for fresh produce daily. In the household, the matriarch would keep a strict eye on what her daughter-in-law was making for the family to eat. (2) Shame at seeming selfish. They hesitate to overeat. Calorie restriction is enforced by shame from others in their group. (3) A well-established, traditional alternative health care system, which is widely used. Western medicine with its allopathic model is a latecomer, but has taken over as the main mode of treatment because it is covered by the national health insurance system. (People here are starting to recognize problems with it.)

I thought it was interesting that Mongolia has more Doctors per capita than the U.S.A.  I wonder if they are trained in the traditional methods or like our M.D.s in this country.  I am not suprised that we are as low as we are on the list for health related problems.  When doctors treat the symptoms and not the cause you end up with problems.

I do not have statistics and cannot tell you for sure, but my impression is the Soviet Union trained and dispersed a lot of doctors to rural areas, which included most of Mongolia. After the collapse, many were retained at hospitals, but with the collapse of the ruble, the wages became so pitifully small (like $50/month) and supplies, so hard to obtain, that many branched out into alternative fields. What I witnessed in the Baikal area north of Mongolia was most people turning to alternative medicine, well represented there by Tibetan medicine, and there were some amazingly skilled practitioners. When our overloaded medical system finally collapses, people will turn in droves to alternative medicine as their only hope. Until then, though, I suspect they believe too much in our current system.

Joycexn:

I tried to goto the tinyurl.com/7ghc to counter against passing the FDA's regulation against CAM, but your site just takes me to a BBC sportspage.

Is there a more direct site?

People may be getting more knowledgeable, but even as we speak, the FDA, through a "Guidance" about the regulation of Complementary and Alternative Medecine (CAM), is attempting to eliminate all CAM practices and products.  They want to change the terms from "Modality" to "Medicine" and from "Therapy" to "Treatment". This would make it  illegal for anyone who is not a licensed practioner to counsel people in health issues (practicing without a license).  Even if you were a licensed practioner, you would not be able to use any means unless it was approved by the FDA. (No vitamins, supplements, etc.) THIS IS HUGE!  This is happening right now, and we have until the end of April to present an outrage.  But it will have to be a big outrage by a LARGE number of people.  The FDA is hoping to slip this through before anyone notices that it is happening.  If you would like to send a letter to the FDA with your opinion on the matter, you can go to
tinyurl.com/7ghc
There is a letter already written which you may want to read for more information, or you may write your own letter.  Either way, please respond and get this information out to others.  Thanks!
