Wal-Mart's Predatory Business Practices Exposed

More than a year ago, I told you about the launch of a grassroots movement to get people to see Robert Greenwald's excellent documentary, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices. Now you can watch the video for free on Google Video.

The film exposes the many social and financial problems created every time a Wal-Mart store opens in your area, all in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. And, now in the pursuit of the organic food customer, Wal-Mart is contributing to the degradation of those same food standards, based on well-founded allegations of selling mislabeled foods produced at factory farms.

Get a civics lesson on the perils of the growth of Wal-Mart by watching Greenwald's excellent documentary for free.

this is  very great info on the biggest rip off to the american people ever.  i worked for wal-mart and saw much of what has been reported here.  i also recently read the book "the Wal-Mart effect" a exalent read for any american who thinks that Wal-Mart is "good" for the US.  I also have lived in Arkansas and have lived the "Wal-Mart" mentality first hand and i want NO part of it.  And now they (Wal- mart) are messing with what is left of the good foods in America, not good! I do not shop at Wal-Mart and ask others to do the same. If you do shop there you are not saving a thing.  Just look around and see the lost jobs and lowering quality of merchandize in your area.  I live in a small town and we are getting a suppercenter soon, I am saddened to see the demise of our local business and our rural way of life.  i implore you to reconsider shopping at Wal-Mart!

I totally agree with your comment! Wal Mart is destroying our competitive market and placing unreasonable demands on its suppliers.
I refuse to shop there for anything!
They don't pay a adequate wage or provide proper medical insurance for their workers!
When you go to their stores you take a minium of 10 min. to park and get to the door of the store. Noone can help you find anything in the store or even tell you where things are. You can spend 30 minutes or longer getting a few items. Then it takes another 5 min. to get to a check out line. Then you can wait another 10 min. to check out! Then it takes another 10 min to get back to where you parked! Now total the time you spent shopping!10 + 30 + 5 + 10 +10 =65 minutes to shop.
What is your time worth for a hour and 5 min. to shop ?
If you make $10.00 per hr. at your job you spent over $10.00 : just to go in their store! What did you save shopping at Wal-Mart? Add your time cost of $10.00 to your purchase and see what you payed !
Ib can't afford to shop there at that cost!!!

I work for a pulp and paper company, our industry is under strict EPA regulations, which makes manufacturing  more costly. China has no environmental regulations.  Walmart is buying tissue products from China and is selling it for less than what U.S. companies can manufacture it for.  My point, the water used in their pulp washing processes,  comes out of  their very polluted rivers.  So any tissue products, towels, napkins, etc., that we use in our kitchen and bathrooms contains all the many chemicals floating in their rivers.  We're trying to get our government to enforce the same environmental standards we follow on foreign companies selling to the U.S.

The issue is not that people are anti-profit or anti-capitalist.  The issue is that Globalisation is driven by Corporations that are driven by one motive only: to make more profit every year.  Multinational Corporations have all the personality traits of a psychopath as defined by the DSM (the manual that shrinks use).  They care nothing about the environment, human rights and the health and happiness of their employees and customers.  It has often been stated that the only job of the directors of a listed corporation is to make a profit for the shareholders.  Most directors take that job description seriously and get rewarded handsomely for turning a blind eye to the serious environmental and social abuses that their organisations participate in.  Corporations have the means to lobby elected representatives and they provide most of the funding for those people running for office.  In other words, they buy influence.  So Congress ends up passing law after law that favours the Corporations and reduces the rights of citizens.  Eisenhower warned about the "Military-Industrial Complex" and the results can be seen right now in Iraq and Afganistan.

I think it's time people shop elsewhere. I for one will, and I will pass this video along to others.
