Why You Are Being Deceived by the News Media

DeceptionIn the last 15 years, your sources for news have shrunk drastically.

Whereas in 1983, 50 corporations ruled the U.S. news media, by 2004 this number decreased to a minuscule six corporations.

When Ben Bagdikian predicted this more than 20 years ago in his book The Media Monopoly, he was called "alarmist". But when he updated his book in the 1990's, there were already fewer than two dozen media corporations controlling almost all of America's newspapers, magazines, TV stations, radio stations, books, records, movies, videos, wire services and photo agencies. He predicted that the number would fall even farther, and was greeted with skepticism. But his critics have been proven wrong as an increasingly small number of corporations control an increasingly huge percentage of the media market.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Today, your mind is controlled by Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch's News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, Viacom (formerly CBS) and General Electric's NBC.  These are the top owners of the entire media industry, which includes everything you read and hear in newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, books, records, movies, videos, wire services and photo agencies. Is this a problem?

You bet it is!

There is Virtually No Competition in the Media Market Today Whatsoever

With a paltry six mega-corporations deciding what's news and what's not, you end up with a watered-down, hyped-up, "Paris-Hilton-Daily-Blow-By-Blow" censored for entertainment-value type information, which somehow now passes for news.

The Internet has Become the Last Bastion of Independent, Free-Thinking News

And health-related information is no exception to this rule. These mega-companies wield incredible power when it comes to
slamming down the natural health industry and dumbing down the public. You have seen proof of it on numerous occasions already, with their "shocking news that vitamins are bad for your health" articles, just as an example.

I am proud to be a
top-ranked independent voice in the vastness of corporate monopoly, offering information to empower you with alternative choices that can revolutionize your health, open your eyes to the truth, and keep you safely out of the pharmaceutical sickness loop.

Whatever issues you hold important-- food and health, politics, environment,  the media has to be your second focus because without a healthy media --one with a diversity of ownership, and many platforms of delivery--- communicating the issues of our day in the hands of so few simply will NOT happen.    (This is an obvious statement to anyone who watches news on television in the states.)

What a shame for a media that has so much potential!

www.freepress.net does a fantastic job keeping us up on these issues and alerting us when the FCC is about to allow further consolidation.

In fact it was an internet campaign by Free Press in 2003 that delivered 3 million comments to the FCC, more than they've ever received over any issue, and brought Big Media to its knees stopping any further consolidation.  ( Big Media is not going away on this one, so stay alert!)

Hi Jane...I just want to say Thank You for choosing to stand up for what is right and for being willing to be fired and go through all you went through at Fox TV along with Steve Wilson. I read about your story in Dr. Epstein's book "What's In Your Milk". I am so sorry that journalism has sunken to such depths and that you had to choose between trying to inform us (the unsuspecting public) about the dangers of rBGH milk or loose your jobs. Pathetic! I applaud you for your courage to not compromise. All americans owe you and Steve our gratitude...I only wish that the truth could have gotten out to the public through your documentary and there were more journalists like you out there!

Interesting angle on the butter story... perhaps Dr. Mercola would like to put out a piece on one over the other?  Udo Erasmus has a good chapter on the debate in his book "Fats that kill, fats that heal".  If you want my own view... if I had to make a choice (i.e. there was no tahini, almond, hazlenut, pumpkin seed etc butters around!) I'd take the butter.  No milk sugar in it and it's a far more natural than the artificial emulsifying of water and oils done to make margarine.

OK,
let's take a quick look at "Butter". A very knowledgeable man returned my information (received from a farmer cousin) about how deadly margarine/oleo can be in some cases. He states that margarine is perfectly safe, and that butter is still dangerous to our health.
He even went as far as to send me to www.snopes.com where it is "proved" butter is not a good as most people think.

Once again the media can manipulate us.
What do you think?
Is margarine/oleo a purer food than butter?
